Final Report Meeting on Urban Regeneration Linked to Traditional Market in Hwagok 1-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has taken proactive steps to improve the environment of Hwagog 1-dong Hwagog Central Market and the nearby low-rise residential areas.

On the morning of the 20th, the district held the ‘Hwagog 1-dong Traditional Market Linked Urban Regeneration Service Final Report Meeting’ at the district office’s main conference room, attended by about 10 people including Mayor Noh Hyun-song and project stakeholders.

Attendees reviewed the direction of urban regeneration once again and shared opinions on future tasks such as ▲creating urban regeneration living SOC ▲improving the pedestrian environment around Woljeong-ro 30-gil and Garogongwon-ro 76-gil ▲and the signboard maintenance project for shopping districts.

Based on the research service results, the district plans to promote traditional market revitalization measures tailored to local characteristics and improve the pleasant residential environment.

In particular, a hub center will be established to strengthen the competitiveness of the traditional market, operating as a youth-specialized store, start-up support center, and community space for residents. An childcare center will also be created to improve the childcare environment.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “All departments must collaborate to improve the pleasant residential environment and revitalize the traditional market that local residents truly want,” adding, “We will do our best to carry out the urban regeneration project without any setbacks and make the area vibrant.”

The district operates an urban regeneration field support center to enable local residents to actively participate in the project, reflecting opinions gathered through workshops and meetings into the urban regeneration plan and promoting it accordingly.
