Jeonnam Province "2022 Namdo Traditional Liquor Competition, Submit Your Entries"

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 20th that it is accepting applications for excellent local alcoholic beverages to participate in the ‘2022 Namdo Traditional Liquor Competition,’ held to improve the quality and competitiveness of traditional liquors, until the 29th.

The application categories are ▲Takju (unfiltered rice wine) ▲Yakju·Cheongju (refined rice wines) ▲Fruit wines ▲Distilled liquors (distilled soju and general distilled liquors) ▲Other liquors (liqueurs, etc.).

About eight domestic liquor experts will be selected as judges, and through a strict evaluation process, a total of 12 Namdo traditional liquors will be chosen.

Eligibility requires products approved by the National Tax Service for liquor manufacturing methods. However, only products that have been distributed for at least three months prior to the submission date can participate.

Among companies located in Jeonnam, each company can apply for up to three products, one per liquor type.

To participate in the competition, applicants must apply to the city or county where the liquor manufacturing facility is located. Along with the application form, product details, trademark (label), manufacturing method report, manufacturing process description, product manufacturing report, and certificate of origin must be submitted.

The selection of excellent liquors will reflect 30% document evaluation and 70% product evaluation. The document evaluation considers the use of domestic agricultural products and acquisition of ‘Liquor Quality Certification,’ while the product evaluation assesses the liquor’s color, aroma, taste, and texture.

The finalized 12 products will qualify to be submitted as Jeonnam’s representative brands to the ‘2022 Korea Our Liquor Competition.’ They will also be candidates for Jeonnam’s ‘Namdo Traditional Liquor of the Month 2023’ selected by Jeonnam Province.

Additionally, they will receive various support benefits such as participation in Namdo Market online promotional events, domestic and international exhibitions, collaboration with liquor subscription services and distribution specialists, publication of feature articles in professional magazines, and recommendations as toast or banquet drinks at various events.

Kang Hachun, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “We hope many Namdo traditional liquors, carefully brewed by combining various local agricultural specialties and creative ideas, will be submitted to the competition. In response to the recent increase in consumption of traditional liquors by the MZ generation, we will actively support the development of new products such as distilled soju made from rice and sparkling Makgeolli, enhancement of marketability, and modernization of production facilities.”
