Small Joys of Fun, Sightseeing, and Food Together... Nowon-gu Hosts Rooftop Starlight Harmony Festival

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold the ‘Rooftop Starlight Harmony Festival’ to relieve everyday stress.

The event will take place on the 24th from 3 PM to 9 PM at the Hagye Harmony Center, divided into Part 1 and Part 2. It is designed with various programs and performances so that all generations, from infants to seniors, can enjoy and participate together with local residents.

Part 1, ‘Harmony Yard,’ will be held from 3 PM to 6 PM throughout the center, focusing on participatory programs. In the front yard on the first floor, there will be 'Book Art Making,' 'Mari Market' where residents of Hagye 1-dong sell clothing and other items, 'Byulbyul Store' selling handmade products by youth, and a 'Child-Friendly City Booth' commemorating the higher-level certification of UNICEF’s Child-Friendly City. In the backyard, a 'Co-parenting Room Making Program' will be operated.

On the second floor of the center, 'Hanji Lantern Making' is prepared, and on the third floor, various activities related to the ‘2022 Nowon-gu One Book’ will take place. Visitors can experience the children’s picture book 'A Letter to the Forest Photo Studio' (audiobook production) and watch the movie 'Big Hero,' which is related to the 2022 Nowon-gu One Book theme, ‘Family.’

On the rooftop, a game zone is set up where visitors can enjoy various games such as mole whacking, basketball games, hand soccer, and trampolines.

Part 2, the book concert, will be held from 6:30 PM to 9 PM at the rooftop ‘Everyone’s Garden.’ Since it is held in the evening in an open space with a view of the sky, the program is centered on performances.

The ‘Book Concert,’ where honest stories about books will be shared, is expected to last about an hour in a romantic atmosphere blending books and music.

Along with this, various attractions such as a ‘Children’s Musical’ and ‘B-boying’ will add to the enjoyment.

Additionally, the 4th-floor Senior Sports Center, which was a space for seniors, will be open to all festival participants from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.

Various food options to enhance the festival’s fun are also prepared. Various local organizations, including Nowon Youth Stores, will participate to sell cookies, coffee, ade, and non-alcoholic cocktails. Popcorn, slushies, and so-tteok so-tteok (skewered rice cakes and sausages) will be provided free of charge to children participating in the programs.

Meanwhile, the Hagye Harmony Center (Hagye 1-dong), which opened last December, is a complex cultural space covering all generations with a total area of 1,990.3㎡ across one basement and four above-ground floors. The first floor houses the ‘Co-parenting Room’ and ‘Resident Lounge,’ the second floor has a ‘Children’s Library,’ the third floor is home to the ‘I-Hu Center’ responsible for caring for lower-grade elementary school students from dual-income families, and the fourth floor contains the ‘Senior Sports Center’ where seniors can enjoy recreational sports and hobbies.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “This festival was prepared reflecting the purpose of the Harmony Center, which was created for everyone from infants to seniors to enjoy,” adding, “We will continue to strive to help residents find joy in their daily lives through various large and small festivals.”

Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Lee Chang-woo) successfully concluded the ‘2022 Traveling Cultural Performance’ held on the 11th at the plaza connected to the Dongjak Youth Cafe ‘THE Hangang’ to comfort the worries and hearts of Dongjak youth.

The performance was part of the ‘Yongyang Bongjeojeong Area Tourism Development Project’ and featured various outdoor performances at the plaza next to ‘THE Hangang’ in Yongyang Bongjeojeong Park, which was established last year.

First, folk music by local artist ‘Seong Hae-bin,’ who has recently gained attention in the indie music scene, kicked off the event, followed by 30-minute live performances by artists such as singer Fromm and Yoon Ddan Ddan.

Female singer-songwriter ‘Fromm’ has been nominated in several categories at the Korean Popular Music Awards and is recognized for balancing popularity and artistry through various musical experiments. Singer Yoon Ddan Ddan is loved by the public for many songs with a soft tone that matches the fresh early summer atmosphere.

With the artists’ voices and the applause and cheers of about 150 audience members gathered at the outdoor plaza in front of ‘THE Hangang,’ the charm of an impromptu and lively busking performance was highlighted.

Audience member Mr. Kim (42), who enjoyed the performance, said, “I was happy to enjoy an outdoor performance up close after a long time,” adding, “Thanks to the acoustic music I could comfortably listen to with a view of the Hangang River in the neighborhood, it was a healing time.”

Especially at this performance, the singer read stories submitted in advance by selected audience members and sang requested songs, creating a time of communication together.

If you want to watch this performance again, it will be available on the Dongjak Cultural Foundation YouTube channel starting July 1.

Park Tae-han, Director of the Sports and Culture Division, said, “Through this traveling cultural performance, we wanted to deliver new vitality and hope to local residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “We are planning various performances and festivals for residents, including ‘Nodeul Nanjang’ and the ‘Autumn Music Festival’ in September and October, so we hope for continued interest and participation.”
