[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Park Seong-hoon, head of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Joint Investigation Team on Financial and Securities Crimes, known as the 'Yeouido Grim Reaper' (age 50, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 31), recently submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Justice.

According to the legal community on the 17th, Park recently expressed his intention to resign to the Ministry of Justice.

Park is a certified public accountant and a certified specialist prosecutor in accounting analysis. He participated in the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Joint Investigation Team on Savings Bank Corruption in 2012 and the Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Joint Investigation Team on Securities Crimes in 2014. He also served as the head of the Corporate Legal Affairs Division at the Ministry of Justice, head of the Financial Investigation Division 2 at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and head of the Financial Failure Responsibility Investigation Headquarters at the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Upon his inauguration, Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon revived the Joint Investigation Team on Financial and Securities Crimes, and Park, who was serving as the head of the Financial and Securities Crime Investigation Cooperation Team, was appointed as the head of the Joint Investigation Team. However, he suddenly submitted his resignation ahead of the upcoming mid-level prosecutor personnel reshuffle.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice is expected to accept these resignations and appoint a new head of the Joint Investigation Team in the prosecutor personnel reshuffle, which may begin as early as next week.

The Ministry of Justice plans to hold a Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting on the afternoon of the 21st, and the prosecutor personnel reshuffle is expected to take place on that day or thereafter. On the morning of the same day, a reorganization plan including an increase in the number of research prosecutors at the Judicial Research and Training Institute is expected to be approved at the Cabinet meeting.
