"If the Democratic Party Feels Unfairly Treated, They Should Also Review Wiretap Data Together"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 17th, Ha Tae-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, revealed that the Coast Guard made a conscience confession regarding the case of the government official killed by North Korean soldiers in the West Sea in 2020. Ha argued that cooperation from the Democratic Party of Korea and former President Moon Jae-in is necessary to uncover the truth.
On the same day, Ha appeared on CBS Radio's Kim Hyun-jung News Show and shared his thoughts on the Coast Guard's recent reversal of their conclusion during the interim investigation. Initially, the Coast Guard had judged that the official had defected to the North, but later concluded that no evidence was found to confirm the intent to defect. Regarding this, Ha said, "Originally, the Coast Guard made a conscience declaration to me just before the regime change," adding, "They came to my office and reported that the conclusion of defection had already been made before the investigation started." He explained, "The government, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Blue House drew their conclusions based on intercepted communications. The military's intercepted data was not from the Coast Guard, but the investigation results were tailored to justify the overall direction of the investigation based on those interception results."
He stated, "They exaggerated the official as a problematic person to forcibly fit the narrative and selectively picked only evidence favorable to the defection theory to announce."
According to the National Human Rights Commission's investigation, Ha explained that the official's gambling debt, initially reported as 300 million won, was "exaggerated by more than twice." He also pointed out that although there was a better life jacket available, it was not worn; the neatly arranged shoes were to wear different shoes; and the second investigation concluded that the current flowed northward.
Regarding the case escalating into a truth game, Ha said, "The military interception results can be reviewed," and challenged, "If the Democratic Party believes their claims are correct, let's review them together." He also mentioned that the official's family is filing a criminal complaint and said, "If former President Moon Jae-in believes he is innocent and wronged, he can request the disclosure of presidential records."
