This "Dignity of Life" exhibition reinterprets the "shapes and patterns" of traditional clothing and accessories to present lifestyle craftworks that can be used to organize oneself and decorate surrounding spaces in daily life. It features collaborative works by 12 active artisans and craft brands from various fields.
The exhibition includes 12 artisans: Kang Mina (Studio M), Kim Nam-kyung (Danha), Kim Bo-ram (Byoryang), Kim Su-yeon (Studio Yeon), Kim Hyun-joo (Kim Hyun-joo Studio), Ryu Jong-dae (Creaport), Myung Soo-gi (Myungsum), Eom Yoon-na (Nister), Lee Young-jin (Mamari), Lee Hae-in & Lee Hee-seung (Igamak), Jo Young-ah (Project Bomul), and Choi Sung-mi (Saemmul).
This exhibition offers a variety of expressions and attempts filled with differentiated originality and artistry through modern interpretations of tradition expressed in each artisan’s unique style. Visitors can directly touch, use, and collect the works on display.
Meanwhile, since last year, Hong Geon-ik House has hosted exhibitions themed around household objects focusing on the dignity and character of life. This year, following the "Dignity of Life" exhibition in the first half, a planned exhibition on the conduct of life will be held in the second half. Located on the west side of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Hong Geon-ik House was built in 1936 (Seoul Folk and Folk Painting Cultural Property No. 33) and is a modern hanok uniquely preserving the original stone well and single-leaf door. Comprising five buildings, Hong Geon-ik House exhibits the history of the west side of Gyeongbokgung Palace and various records of people, offering a space to glimpse the local history.
Hong Geon-ik House is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays and public holidays), and the "Dignity of Life" exhibition runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission is available through online advance reservation (Naver) starting from the 14th.
