Cell Biotech Accelerates ESG Management... Changes All Products Including 'Duolac' to Green Packaging

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Microbiome specialist company Cell Biotech is strengthening its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

On the 16th, Cell Biotech announced that it will change the packaging and boxes of all its products, including its flagship products 'Duolac Gold' and 'Duolac YamYam Plus,' to green packaging.

The green packaging products use 'FSC-certified' paper packaging materials. FSC certification is a forest management certification system granted to paper or products produced according to ten principles aimed at protecting forest resources and promoting sustainable forest management.

Instead of oil-based ink, plant-based soybean oil ink is used on the packaging to enhance recyclability. Although plant-based soybean oil ink is generally more expensive than oil-based ink, it is known to produce less carbon emissions and allows easier separation of paper and ink, making recycling more efficient.

Cell Biotech is also establishing a resource circulation system in the byproduct disposal process. To environmentally utilize the lactic acid bacteria fermentation byproduct called 'lactic acid bacteria fermentation liquid,' it has been registered as an organic agricultural material, and earlier this year, a prototype of the eco-friendly fertilizer 'Biolacto' was produced in Gimpo City. Additionally, the lactic acid bacteria fermentation liquid has been registered as a feed additive and is provided free of charge to local organizations, contributing to regional coexistence and the establishment of a sustainable agriculture and livestock system.

A Cell Biotech official stated, “As the severity of environmental pollution, such as global climate change, soil contamination, and the increase of harmful microorganisms, continues to grow, we are striving to build processes for a sustainable environment at the corporate level. Utilizing Cell Biotech’s capabilities in research on disease prevention of grains to respond to the food crisis, we will create a long-term and sustainable resource circulation process.”
