[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Shincheonji Church of Jesus received a commendation from the President of the Korean Red Cross on the 14th in recognition of its leadership in the life-sharing movement through blood donation in celebration of the ‘2022 Blood Donor Day.’
From April 18 to May 4, a total of 18,819 church members participated in blood donation, significantly contributing to alleviating the blood supply shortage caused by the spread of Omicron.
According to the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, the blood donations from over 18,000 people correspond to a blood supply of 3.5 days. Additionally, the church collected a total of 32,324 blood donation certificates and donated them to the Korean Red Cross.
The Korean Red Cross highly evaluated Shincheonji Church of Jesus for actively participating in the Red Cross humanitarian movement and greatly contributing to the development of blood services for life protection, awarding them a commendation.
A church official stated, “Since blood cannot be artificially manufactured, blood donation is the only way to save patients’ lives,” adding, “The value of life-sharing among our members and their precious desire to overcome the national crisis have come together to create a miracle.”
Previously, during the early stages of COVID-19 in 2020 when vaccines and treatments were unavailable, the church responded to requests from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency by participating in plasma donation for the development of COVID-19 treatments three times, involving a total of about 6,000 people.
