Haenam-gun Begins Sewage System Renovation in Songji Mabong·Valley and Yeosu Village

Total Project Cost of 13 Billion Won, Closure of Private Septic Tanks and Installation of Public Sewage Treatment Plants

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The rural village sewage system improvement project in Mabong and Gyegok, Songji, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, completed the detailed design service last month and is scheduled to begin construction this month.

According to the county on the 15th, the rural village sewage system improvement project will close individual septic tanks installed in each household and separate the treatment of wastewater and stormwater.

Stormwater will be treated through the existing drainage channels around the village as before, while wastewater discharged from household bathrooms and kitchens will be purified and treated at a public sewage treatment plant by newly installing sewage pipelines.

This project, with a total budget of 13 billion KRW including 5.8 billion KRW for Mabong, Songji, and 7.2 billion KRW for Gyegok, Yeosu, will install two sewage treatment plants, 8.4 km of sewage pipelines, and 270 drainage facilities. Completion is targeted by the end of 2024.

Once completed, six villages including four villages in Mabong and Daejuk-ri, Songji-myeon, and Yeosu-ri, Gyegok-myeon, totaling 270 households, are expected to benefit.

The inconvenience of managing individual septic tanks and the unpleasant odors caused by pollution of surrounding public water bodies are expected to be resolved.

A county official said, “We are currently installing and operating 50 public sewage treatment facilities, and we will continue to expand sewage treatment facilities to alleviate the inconveniences of residents in underserved rural fishing villages and strive to create a pleasant living environment.”
