Kim Dong-yeon, President-elect, Revisits Memorial Altar for Family of Person with Developmental Disability Tragedy After Half a Month

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, the governor-elect of Gyeonggi Province, will visit the memorial altar for families of people with developmental disabilities at Suwon Station on the 15th. It will be two weeks since he paid respects at the altar on the last day of the election campaign, March 31. Kim will then attend an executive meeting of the Chungbuk Residents' Association held on the 2nd floor of the Suwon Farmers' Hall inside Suwon DS Convention.

According to the spokesperson office of the Gyeonggi Province Governor Transition Committee, Kim will visit the memorial altar for families of people with developmental disabilities set up at the Suin-Bundang Line transfer center on the basement first floor of Suwon Station at 1:20 p.m. that day to pay tribute to the deceased.

The Korea Parents' Federation of Persons with Disabilities Gyeonggi Branch and the Gyeonggi Disability Discrimination Abolition Solidarity recently installed the altar here after tragic deaths repeatedly occurred, including families of people with developmental disabilities killing the disabled and making extreme choices.

In fact, in March in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, a biological mother struggling with financial difficulties killed her 8-year-old son with developmental disabilities. On the same day in Siheung, a mother suffering from terminal cancer killed her 20s daughter with developmental disabilities and then attempted an extreme choice. Also, on the 3rd of this month in Ansan, a man in his 60s who was caring alone for his brothers in their 20s with developmental disabilities made an extreme choice.

A spokesperson explained, "Kim, who had always promised inclusion and coexistence for socially vulnerable groups including people with developmental disabilities, will visit the altar to mourn the deceased and comfort the families of people with developmental disabilities."

Kim will then attend the executive meeting of the Chungbuk Residents' Association held at 2:20 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Suwon Farmers' Hall inside Suwon DS Convention.

Meanwhile, residents of Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, the hometown of Kim Dong-yeon, presented a cactus flower basket as a gift with the meaning of "move forward strongly and firmly like a cactus" in line with the launch of the Gyeonggi Province Governor Transition Committee.
