Simply with My Favorite Flavor!
If you are my age, you will definitely relate. Just a few years ago, we used to try every new fruit-flavored soju that came out. We would get intoxicated by the artificial fruit scents and gulp it down, only to suffer from hangovers the next day. These days, beers made through collaborations are being released one after another, and I suddenly wondered where all the fruit sojus of the past have gone. Since it's summer now and I wanted to revive some memories, I decided to make fruit soju cocktails myself along with fruit-flavored ice cream.
Ingredients: Your favorite fruit-flavored ice cream, soju, tonic water
Recipe: Put your favorite fruit-flavored ice cream into a glass, then mix soju and tonic water in a 1 to 3 ratio.
Jadu (Plum)
Among today's four recipes, I first tried the Jadu bar. I put one Jadu bar into less than half a bottle of soju and mixed it well. As it melted, it naturally turned plum-colored. Since the Jadu bar is very sour, I expected it to mask the alcohol scent and taste well, but it did not. Even after adding sparkling water to enjoy it as a cocktail, the soju flavor lingered down to the throat more than the sourness. The plum scent tickled the tip of my nose, but the taste did not live up to it.
One-line review: I expected a lot since it’s my favorite ice cream... (too much to say)
Kiwi
After the sour Jadu bar, I immediately tried the Gold Kiwi bar. The ice cream itself has a soft, creamy texture rather than a crunchy one, leaving teeth marks. When melted in soju, the black seeds and juice of the kiwi dissolved. Visually and taste-wise, it was the combination I least expected, but it was better than I thought. I worried the seeds might make swallowing uncomfortable, but not at all. Unlike the Jadu bar, the sweetness and sourness blended moderately with the soju, and the alcohol flavor was subtly present.
One-line review: This is truly sweet and sour!
Pear
When leaving a drinking party, you might see people holding a “Gara-madeun Bae” (blended pear drink) or “Tankboy” in their hands. The editor is (sometimes) one of them. Pear is said to activate liver function and help with alcohol elimination, so everyone who knows hangovers well is familiar with it. Therefore, it was the most anticipated, and as expected, it did not disappoint. Even before adding tonic water, melting the ice cream in a small amount of soju tasted quite good. Even after adding tonic water, the carbonation was not strongly felt. The sweet pear flavor mixed with a slight alcohol scent made it pleasant to drink.
One-line review: A slightly alcoholic version of “Gara-madeun Bae cider”
Cheongpodo (Green Grape)
Thinking of the “Cheongpodo Isul” (Green Grape Dew) released in the liquor market, I made green grape soju. The ice cream containing rich green grape concentrate inside the ice can be described as 90% sweet and 10% sour. When melted in soju, the sweet scent and taste came through as is. While Cheongpodo Isul is transparent, the homemade green grape soju had a light green color similar to green grape candy. Mixing it with tonic water gave the impression of a green grape ade ordered with “make it less sweet!”
One-line review: If made solid, it would be like green grape candy
