Honorary Chairman Cho: "The Efforts of Many People Have Made South Korea a Top 10 Global Economy"
Honorary Chairman Cho Seok-rae of Hyosung was recognized for his contributions to South Korea's economic development by leading economic cooperation with the United States, Japan, and China, and dedicating himself as a private diplomat.
On the 14th, Honorary Chairman Cho received the '14th Yeongsan Diplomat Award 2022' presented by the Seoul International Forum at The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The Yeongsan Diplomat Award is given annually to government and private figures who have contributed to enhancing national interests and the country's image on the international stage and in frontline diplomacy. Past recipients include Kim Jang-hwan, Chairman of Far East Broadcasting Company, and Park Hang-seo, head coach of the Vietnam national football team.
The Seoul International Forum stated, "Honorary Chairman Cho, an engineering graduate and leader in the economic sector, has greatly contributed to laying the foundation of an economic powerhouse by dedicating himself to economic diplomacy at the forefront of economic cooperation with the United States, Japan, China, and Europe, including the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), visa waiver agreements, and Korea-Japan technology exchanges," explaining the reason for his selection.
In a video message, Honorary Chairman Cho said, "I was given the opportunity to work in the Korea-US Business Council, Korea-Japan Business Council, Korea-Japan Forum, and others, contributing to the expansion of economic exchanges. It is deeply moving that all our efforts have brought our country into the world's top 10 economic powers," and added, "I hope our country will continue to develop and become the number one respected nation in the world."
Since 1987, Honorary Chairman Cho has led major domestic and international economic exchange organizations such as the Federation of Korean Industries, Korea-Japan Economic Association, Korea-Japan Forum, Korea-US Business Council, and PBEC (Pacific Basin Economic Council), working tirelessly to expand economic diplomacy. In particular, Honorary Chairman Cho laid the groundwork for the Korea-US FTA, considered one of the most successful trade negotiations in South Korean history. Immediately after becoming chairman of the Korea-US Business Council in 2000, he emphasized that trade liberalization was essential for the globalization of the Korean economy and was the first domestic businessperson to propose the Korea-US FTA.
