Gwanak-gu Policy Planning Team Launched to Create Innovative Leap Roadmap for the 8th Elected Term

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) launched the ‘Policy Planning Team’ on the 13th to draw an innovative leap roadmap for the 8th term of the elected government, officially starting the implementation of Mayor Park Jun-hee’s pledges for the next four years.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I think I succeeded in re-election thanks to keeping my pledges well over the past four years,” and added, “Following the 7th term, I ask the Policy Planning Team to prepare the nation’s best pledge implementation plan so that I can be the top mayor in pledge fulfillment in the 8th term as well.”

Despite the difficult situation of declining party support rates in the recent June 1 local elections, Mayor Park was elected with a high support rate of 52.93%, reaffirming the strong desire of Gwanak residents for innovative development.

“If the 7th term of Gwanak-gu was a period to confirm visible changes and development such as Gwanak S Valley, Byeolbitnaerimcheon Stream, and revitalization of the alley economy, and to lay the foundation, the 8th term will focus on creating tangible results that residents can clearly feel based on the principles of ‘innovation, inclusion, and cooperation,’ and will sprint with full force,” Mayor Park clearly stated the goals and direction of the 8th term administration.

The Policy Planning Team is composed of a total of 26 members, including Kim Eui-young, professor of political science and diplomacy at Seoul National University, and Deputy Mayor Yoo Jae-ryong as co-chairs, 17 civilian members, and 9 director-level public officials. It is notable that many youths, cultural planners, economic experts, Seoul National University professors, and students are participating.

Starting with the inauguration ceremony, the team will operate through three subcommittees?‘Youth, Culture, Welfare,’ ‘Administration, Economy, Innovation,’ and ‘Sustainable Development, City’?until July 8. Through plenary and subcommittee meetings, they will select pledge implementation tasks for the 8th term and prepare an execution plan (draft).

Subsequently, based on the pledge execution plan (draft) proposed by the Policy Planning Team, the district will gather residents’ opinions, hold Innovation and Cooperation Committee meetings, policy meetings, and other deliberative processes to create concrete execution measures, drawing a roadmap that links these to the basic plan for the 8th term administration.

Team leader Kim Eui-young said, “Since many excellent people are participating, I am confident that a great work will come out by July 8 if we gather wisdom and capabilities through close cooperation and communication,” and expressed his commitment, “We will do our best to select and establish execution plans for 54+α practical tasks to achieve the six strategic goals: Shared Economy, Shared Welfare, Youth Special City, Top Education and Culture, Clean and Safe Living Environment, and Innovative Gwanak City.”

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced that the Village Community Support Center received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the ‘2022 National Records Management Merit Awards’ hosted by the National Archives of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on June 9, recognizing its excellence in records management capabilities.

The National Records Management Merit Awards have been held since 1999 to build social consensus on the importance of records management. Every year, individuals, organizations, and institutions that have contributed to raising awareness of records management and spreading records culture are discovered and awarded.

The Geumcheon-gu Village Community Support Center was highly praised for its contribution to raising awareness of the importance of village records by opening the nation’s first Village Community Archive in 2019, collecting and producing records of village activities, and establishing historical significance and identity as a record space through continuous exhibitions.

In particular, it is significant that the management of records was expanded into the private sector by having residents directly collect, store, and exhibit records of village activities produced at the village level.

Additionally, the center promoted record activities by operating a village records school for residents and established a foundation for systematic management of village records by signing an MOU with related organizations and archive systems.

Center director Kim Yoo-sun said, “We will continue record activities to discover new values of the village together with residents,” and added, “We will strive further for the development of records management by preserving and sharing valuable records as assets of Geumcheon.”
