Shinan-gun Launches Full-Scale Pest Control Activities for Summer Season

Sequential Supply and Installation of Septic Tank Mosquito Zones in All Towns and Townships

[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is actively carrying out pest control activities in full swing for the summer season, receiving positive responses from residents.

They are visiting each household in the towns and townships to install 2,300 Mosquito Zones, an eco-friendly mosquito control device, in septic tanks where mosquito larvae breed.

The Mosquito Zone is a mosquito entry-prevention fan that installs a mosquito net with openings smaller than 2mm inside the septic tank ventilator, which adult mosquitoes cannot pass through, thereby fundamentally blocking mosquito access.

Until now, residents have been temporarily blocking mosquito entry and exit using onion nets and other materials, so the installation of Mosquito Zones has been well received by the community.

Mosquitoes lay eggs only in places where water is stagnant. The eggs hatch into larvae in 4 days and live in water for 21 days. After becoming adults, they rest in dark places such as grass, sewers, and building basements, surviving for 15 days.

One adult mosquito lays 120 to 150 eggs per batch and lays eggs 5 to 6 times in its lifetime, so catching one adult mosquito can have the effect of catching 600 mosquitoes.

Since last year, Sinan-gun has been supplying Mosquito Zones as an eco-friendly pest control project, providing 2,700 units so far to the central areas including Amtae-myeon, Palgeum-myeon, Anjwa-myeon, Jaeun-myeon, and Aphae-eup, and plans to supply and install them sequentially in all towns and townships.

In addition, they are regularly conducting larval control activities in water channels and puddles, and with the arrival of summer when mosquito activity increases, they plan to carry out comprehensive disinfection and patrol pest control in vulnerable areas and tourist spots.

A Sinan-gun official stated, “We will do our best to create a pleasant environment through eco-friendly pest control projects such as installing Mosquito Zones in septic tanks and larval control in vulnerable areas, and to make Sinan-gun a clean and clear area free from infectious diseases.”
