The first-generation webtoon "Marine Blues" is set to be produced as an NFT. On the 14th, social creator platform OGQ (CEO Shin Cheol-ho) announced that it will launch the "Marine Blues PFP NFT" project in collaboration with licensing merchandising specialist Brand Young (CEO Park Young-guk).
OGQ will create Marine Blues characters as PFP NFTs. PFP (Profile Picture) NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are profile-type NFTs that allow users to express themselves on social media. These character NFTs will embody the original characters' emotions and feature upgraded narratives including origin stories, as well as enhanced character costumes and accessories.
Marine Blues is a first-generation webtoon that anthropomorphizes sea creatures to humorously depict everyday life. It is a popular webtoon that has garnered strong empathy through various episodes featuring diverse characters such as Seongge-gun (Sea Urchin), Bulgasa-ri-gun (Starfish), Muneo-yang (Octopus), and Sora-yang (Conch), focusing on their daily lives.
OGQ stated, "Even in Korea, a content powerhouse, it is now time for global PFP NFTs like BAYC, CryptoPunks, and Doodles to emerge." They added, "Starting with the Marine Blues project, OGQ will reboot competitive IP assets such as K-webtoons and K-content into PFP NFTs to lead the market."
Meanwhile, the Marine Blues Reboot Club is an NFT project issued on the Ethereum network, consisting of a total of 10,000 PFPs. Detailed minting schedules and prices will be announced soon.
