[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 13th that it will support the ‘Military Service Youth Injury Insurance’ again this year following last year to alleviate the difficulties of young people and their families affected by accidents during military service.
The ‘Military Service Youth Injury Insurance’ is a system that provides injury insurance benefits in case of injury or illness caused by an unexpected accident during military service for active-duty soldiers who have their address registered in Jeongeup City.
The city first implemented the ‘Military Service Youth Injury Insurance’ system in 2019 and has been supporting it for four years including this year.
The support target is young people who have their resident registration in Jeongeup City and are fulfilling their military service (soldiers) at military units nationwide.
Applicable personnel include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, full-time reservists, conscripted police officers, conscripted coast guards, and conscripted firefighters, while supplementary service personnel such as social service agents and professional soldiers are excluded.
Youth residing in Jeongeup City are automatically enrolled upon enlistment without a separate subscription process, and the insurance is automatically terminated upon discharge or transfer to another region.
This year, benefits have been expanded so that the daily hospitalization allowance for injuries or illnesses occurring during military service has been increased from 25,000 KRW to 30,000 KRW.
Also, in case of injury, death, or aftereffects caused by illness, explosion, fire, collapse, etc., coverage is provided up to a maximum of 30 million KRW.
Additionally, consolation money for mental illness is 500,000 KRW, fracture diagnosis fees and burn diagnosis fees are each 300,000 KRW, and an additional 100,000 KRW is compensated for surgeries during the insurance period.
The insurance premium is paid collectively by the city, and coverage is also available for injuries sustained during leave or outings while in military service, with overlapping compensation possible alongside other insurances.
Claims can be filed through the Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance Military Service Youth Injury Insurance Claims Center.
A city official said, “We will ensure a safe military life for soldiers through enrollment in the Military Service Youth Injury Insurance,” and added, “We will continue to do our best so that all youth in the Jeongeup area can enjoy a comfortable and safe life.”
