Gyeongbuk Office of Education Changes Official Document Default Font to ‘Malgun Gothic’ ... Collects User Feedback Through Survey

Gyeongbuk Office of Education Changes Official Document Default Font to ‘Malgun Gothic’ ... Collects User Feedback Through Survey Gyeongbuk Office of Education changes the default font of official documents from Gulim to Malgun Gothic.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will change the default font for official documents from Gulim to ‘Malgun Gothic’ starting from the 13th.

During the ‘Civil Servant Proposal Contest’ held from May 13 to 23, the Office of Education received a proposal requesting the change of the default font for official documents because Gulim is based on Japan’s ‘Naaru’ font, and conducted a survey to gather user opinions.

The survey, conducted over five days from May 23 to 27 targeting all teaching staff, saw participation from 5,719 people, which is 17.9% of the total staff, and among them, 2,161 people (37.8%) chose Malgun Gothic as their preferred font.

Currently, central government ministries use Dotum as the default font for official documents, and city and provincial offices of education use Gulim; however, reflecting user opinions, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has decided to switch to Malgun Gothic.

Malgun Gothic is the first Hangul font developed exclusively for high-resolution displays, designed to maximize readability and allow comfortable reading of Hangul on computers, making it suitable as an official document font.

Min Byeongryeol, head of the General Affairs Division, said, “We will actively reflect civil servant proposals applicable to administration to contribute to the revitalization of the proposal system, and strive to improve inconveniences in the work management system to enhance user convenience.”
