Seoul District Mayors-Elect Transition Committee Officially Launched... Jin Hee-seon, Former Seoul Deputy Mayor for Administration 2, Appointed Head of Seodaemun-gu Transition Committee


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The transition committees for the newly elected district mayors of Seoul, chosen through the June 1 local elections, have been launched and are beginning to take shape.


Transition committees for 17 newly elected district mayors, including Jongno, Jung, Yongsan, Gwangjin, Dongdaemun, and Seodaemun districts in Seoul, have been established and have started full-scale activities such as receiving work reports.


Transition committees are often led by former high-ranking administrators, members of the National Assembly, professors, and lawyers close to the elected officials. In particular, Jin Hee-seon, former Deputy Mayor of Administration of Seoul, was appointed as the chairperson of the Seodaemun District Mayor transition committee led by Lee Seong-heon, and Choi Hang-do, former Chief of Planning and Coordination Office of Seoul, was appointed as the chairperson of the Gangdong District Mayor transition committee led by Lee Soo-hee.


Jung Moon-heon, the elected mayor of Jongno District, announced the confirmation of 15 transition committee members, including Kim Jeong-tak, former Sungkyunkwan University professor and chairperson of the 'Gwanghwamun Presidential Era Committee' during former President Moon Jae-in’s administration, as chairperson; Kim Kwon, former chairman of the Jongno Chamber of Commerce, as vice-chairperson; and Jung Chang-hee, former Seoul city council member, as advisor.


Kim Gil-seong, the elected mayor of Jung District, appointed Choi Myung-ok, former Seoul city council member and chairman of the National Assembly Corporate Integration Policy Research Institute, as chairperson of the transition committee. Vice-chairperson is Choi Woo-jung, former president of the Jung District Women's Association, and former Jung District Mayor Jung Dong-il was appointed as advisory committee chairperson to provide guidance for the transition committee’s activities.


Park Hee-young, the elected mayor of Yongsan District, appointed Shin Pyeong, a former judge and lawyer, as chairperson of the transition committee, and Lee Jong-du, a former Grade 4 administrative officer, as vice-chairperson.


Kim Kyung-ho, the elected mayor of Gwangjin District, appointed Kim Jin-su, professor at Konkuk University Graduate School of Public Administration, as chairperson of the transition committee, and Kim Bun-ran, former director of the Gwangjin District Urban Management Bureau, as vice-chairperson.


Lee Soon-hee, the elected mayor of Gangbuk District, appointed Kim Sang-eon, chairman of the Gangbuk District Council of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, as chairperson of the transition committee. Vice-chairperson and secretary of the Health and Welfare division is Jo Kyung-ae, former secretary-general of the Population and Health Welfare Association. Additionally, 10 advisors, including Kang Young-jo, former director of the Gangbuk District Urban Management Corporation, were appointed.


Park Kang-su, the elected mayor of Mapo District, appointed Kim Gyu-sik, a former high-ranking public official, as chairperson of the transition committee, and Seo Jong-su, former vice-chairman of the Mapo District Council, as vice-chairperson.


Lee Seong-heon, the elected mayor of Seodaemun District, appointed Jin Hee-seon, adjunct professor of Urban Engineering at Yonsei University and former Deputy Mayor of Administration of Seoul, as chairperson of the transition committee.


Lee Ki-jae, the elected mayor, appointed Lee Yong-hwa, former acting mayor of Yangcheon District, as chairperson of the transition committee, and Lee Chang-woon, former president of the Korea Transport Institute, as vice-chairperson. They appointed 13 experts in various fields to review 82 campaign pledges.


Kim Tae-woo, the elected mayor of Gangseo District, appointed Kim Kyung-jin, former member of the National Assembly, as chairperson of the transition committee. The committee consists of 15 members, including professors, administrative experts, and citizens.


Park Il-ha, the elected mayor of Dongjak District, appointed Koo Hye-young, professor of Social Welfare at Hanyang Cyber University, as chairperson of the transition committee, and Kim Hyun-sang, former chairman of the Welfare and Construction Committee of the Dongjak District Council, as vice-chairperson.


Seo Kang-seok, the elected mayor of Songpa District, appointed Han Pyo-hwan, former president of the Korea Local Administration Institute, as chairperson of the transition committee, which is composed of 15 members across six divisions including administration and autonomy.


Lee Soo-hee, chairperson of the Gangdong District Mayor transition committee, appointed Choi Hang-do, former Chief of Planning and Coordination Office of Seoul.


Attention is focused on what achievements these transition committees of each autonomous district’s elected officials will produce.
