Autopsies Conducted on 7 Deceased Victims
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Regarding the arson incident at a lawyer's office in Daegu that resulted in 7 deaths, the Daegu Police Agency and Suseong Police Station will conduct a detailed forensic examination at the scene in Beomeo-dong on the 10th together with the National Forensic Service. In the joint examination conducted on the previous day, the police collected some residues related to the arson and have requested analysis.
CCTV footage from the time of the incident shows the suspect, Mr. A (53), entering the building carrying an unidentified object covered with a white cloth. The police believe this object to be an inflammable material. Due to the large amount of water used to extinguish the fire on the day of the incident, a precise examination could not be conducted at the scene. Through additional examination, they plan to identify what the inflammable substance was and how the fire was started.
The police will also conduct autopsies on the 7 deceased victims within the day to determine the exact cause of death. They plan to investigate the people present at the scene in office 203, where the fire deaths were concentrated. There were 10 employees working in office 203, of whom 6 died. The police intend to focus on confirming the situation at the time with the 4 survivors who escaped from the scene.
This incident occurred when Mr. A, dissatisfied with losing a civil lawsuit, deliberately set fire around 10:55 a.m. on the 9th at a lawyer's office on the 2nd floor of a building with 2 basement levels and 5 floors above ground near the courthouse in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu. The fire caused the deaths of 7 people, including the lawyer and 5 staff members inside the office, as well as Mr. A. Additionally, about 50 residents and clients in the same building were injured due to smoke inhalation and other causes.
