Seoul City Launches Public-Private Cooperation Network 'Zero Seoul Action Group' to Tackle Climate Crisis

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 10th, Seoul City announced the launch of the public-private cooperation network "Zero Seoul Action Group" to achieve zero environmental issues such as greenhouse gases, single-use products, and food waste.

The launch ceremony held on the 9th at Seoul City Hall was attended by Jo In-dong, the First Deputy Mayor of Seoul, representatives and executives from 13 companies, and officials from 3 economic councils. Participating companies in the "Zero Seoul Action Group" will cooperate with Seoul City's major environmental policies such as building energy efficiency, electric vehicle charger distribution, and zero waste, and participate in citizen campaigns responding to the climate crisis.

Seoul City is reducing energy consumption in city-owned and private buildings through the building energy efficiency project and managing the standard greenhouse gas emissions of buildings under a total greenhouse gas zero policy. The Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation is participating in the building energy efficiency project.

Meanwhile, Seoul City conducted a climate change week campaign with companies for a week starting April 22, Earth Day, and has continuously cooperated, including sponsoring the "Admire with Jupgging" event on June 5, Environment Day, with companies participating in the Zero Seoul Action Group.

Starting with the launch ceremony, the city plans to actively cooperate with companies. It will share progress on projects by sector regularly and hold a forum including a performance report meeting in November. Furthermore, the city plans to expand the network scope of the "Zero Seoul Action Group" to include various entities such as religious groups, schools, and civic organizations, not just companies, to spread a culture of climate crisis response practice.

Yoo Yeon-sik, Head of the Climate and Environment Headquarters, said, "Seoul City is making efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon in various fields to respond to the increasingly serious climate crisis," and added, "We hope that more entities such as companies, religious groups, schools, and organizations will join the Zero Seoul Action Group. We ask for much interest and support for climate crisis response together with citizens."
