[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Hanwha Group marked the 1st anniversary of the launch of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee by reaffirming its commitment to practicing world-class ESG management.

Hanwha announced that it held a seminar with invited external experts on the 25th of last month to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the ESG Committee's launch. The event was attended by 80 people, including President Cho Hyun-il, who serves as the committee chairman, Kim Seung-mo, President of Hanwha Corporation, Shin Hyun-woo, President of Hanwha Aerospace, CEOs of major affiliates, and ESG and environmental safety officers from 15 companies. Chairman Cho emphasized, "Based on the ESG management achievements accumulated over the past year, we will continue activities to advance as a global top-tier ESG company."

Last May, the group established the 'Group ESG Committee,' laying an institutional foundation for ESG management. Within one year of its launch, ESG committees were set up not only in all seven listed companies but also in some unlisted affiliates. The group also published a sustainability management report and enacted a governance charter. A distinctive feature of the ESG committees installed in affiliates is that two-thirds or all of the members are appointed as outside directors, and the chairman is also an outside director, ensuring both independence and expertise.

As a global leader in green energy, the group is actively investing in eco-friendly businesses such as solar power and hydrogen both domestically and internationally. It also consistently engages in environmental social contribution campaigns and activities for co-growth with partner companies. As a result, six out of the seven listed companies received an overall grade of 'A' in the 2021 ESG evaluation of listed companies announced by the Korea Corporate Governance Service.

Hanwha Chairman Kim Seung-yeon emphasized ESG management once again in his New Year's address, stating, "Let us actively practice management with integrity and the value of sharing so that the ESG management and the philosophy of 'Together Far' rooted within us can be spread under the name of first-class Hanwha."
