[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hankook Tire & Technology is recently leading the market by expanding its supply of tires for new electric vehicles. The company is proving its status as a global leading tire manufacturer by partnering with pure electric vehicle models introduced for the first time by brands such as Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen.
Hankook Tire is supplying its ultra-high-performance electric vehicle tire, Ventus S1 evo3 EV, as original equipment tires for Volkswagen's first pure electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, the ID.4. In addition, it supplies tires for Audi's e-tron GT, Porsche's Taycan, Tesla's Model Y and Model 3, and core models ES6 and EC6 from the Chinese electric vehicle brand NIO. This year, it will supply original equipment tires for BMW's first pure electric Gran Coupe, the i4, which incorporates BMW's electric vehicle technology.
These achievements are thanks to the accumulation of tire technology optimized for electric vehicles, which are differentiated from conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. Tires for electric vehicles have characteristics such as low rolling resistance, low noise, high load support, quick responsiveness, and high torque handling compared to regular tires. Furthermore, with the rapid increase in high-performance electric vehicles recently, driving performance aspects such as handling are receiving even more focus.
Hankook Tire plans to continue providing the best driving environment for electric vehicle drivers based on its industry-leading electric vehicle tire technology and quality competitiveness. In May, the company launched a new electric vehicle dedicated tire brand, iON, to secure a leading position in the electric vehicle market.
