GS25 Donates Products from Closing Stores... [Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] A virtuous cycle has been established where donated convenience store products lead to job creation for people with disabilities.

On the 8th, GS Retail held a business agreement ceremony regarding the donation of leftover products from GS25 stores that have closed, at the Goodwill Store Milal Songpa branch in Songpa-gu, Seoul, with key officials from both companies attending, including Kim Myung-jong, Head of GS Retail Convenience Store Support Division, and Han Sang-wook, Head of Goodwill Store at Milal Welfare Foundation, the company announced on the 9th.

Goodwill Store is a vocational rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities that receives donations of corporate inventory products or unused clothing from households such as clothing, food, daily necessities, etc., and sells them to provide jobs for people with disabilities.

Until now, GS25 sent leftover products from stores that closed to logistics centers for disposal, which caused losses such as product collection costs, storage costs, and disposal costs. GS25 decided to solve these problems and effectively utilize leftover products by donating them to the Goodwill Store of Milal Welfare Foundation.

Going forward, when GS25 stores close, Goodwill Store vehicles will visit the stores to collect leftover products. The collected products will be delivered to Goodwill Stores nationwide and sold. The sales proceeds will be used for the wages of employees with disabilities.

Both parties expect excellent effects through this business agreement, including ▲simplification of leftover product disposal from closed stores ▲reduction of storage and disposal costs at logistics centers ▲creation of jobs for people with disabilities through sales proceeds from donated products ▲environmental protection through resource circulation.

Kim Myung-jong, Head of GS Retail Convenience Store Support Division, said, "By effectively utilizing leftover products from GS25 stores that have closed, we have been able to contribute not only to corporate cost reduction but also to job creation for people with disabilities and environmental protection through resource circulation." He added, "We will continue to carry out various ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities that companies can practice to help the local community take a step forward."
