[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Kyobo Life Insurance announced that it is accelerating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management for a sustainable future in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
On the 8th, Kyobo Life Insurance signed a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Environmental Education Cooperation to Realize a Sustainable Future" with the Ministry of Environment at the InterContinental Seoul COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This agreement was established to activate environmental education across society and lead carbon neutrality practices by partnering with companies leading social contribution activities in the field of environmental education.
The signing ceremony was held in connection with the "1st Environmental Education Week," which started on Environment Day, the 5th, and runs until the 11th. Nine companies from industries closely related to the daily lives of the public, including insurance, finance, distribution, food, aviation, and transportation, participated in the agreement, with Kyobo Life Insurance being the only company selected from the insurance sector.
Kyobo Life Insurance will operate various environmental education programs such as pledges to practice environmental protection and cyber education on environmental protection for its employees to raise awareness of the crisis caused by climate change and promote environmental protection consciousness.
Additionally, through internal broadcasting and communication channels, the company plans to encourage voluntary practices for environmental protection in daily life among employees. In the second half of this year, it will also hold a plogging event (an activity that involves picking up litter while jogging or walking) involving employees.
Furthermore, Kyobo Life Insurance will strive to create a societal atmosphere for carbon neutrality by discovering environmental education social contribution projects for the entire population and promoting environmental protection campaigns.
The Ministry of Environment will also actively support corporate social contributions in the field of environmental education and establish a foundation for nationwide environmental education through related policy development.
As part of its commitment to environmental protection and strengthening ESG management, Kyobo Life Insurance plans to donate two Hope Trees per employee who completes environmental protection education.
The company will donate fruit trees such as grapefruit trees to extremely poor farming households in Vietnam to support carbon reduction and livelihood income, and will also donate trees for restoration from wildfire damage domestically.
A Kyobo Life Insurance official said, "We consider it meaningful to participate in the Ministry of Environment’s social contribution activities for environmental education amid the increasing severity of the climate crisis," adding, "We will take the lead in ESG management by enhancing employees’ awareness of environmental protection and practicing carbon neutrality through active environmental education."
