[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] LG Uplus announced on the 6th that it has signed an ESG strategic partnership with the Korean Red Cross to collaborate on disaster response and social safety net construction activities.
Recently, ESG management, which focuses on strengthening corporate responsibility in terms of Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G), has been gaining attention. In particular, corporate social responsibility has been reinforced, and this year, companies including LG Uplus provided emergency relief supplies in response to wildfires that occurred in Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, and Miryang-si, Gyeongnam.
To expedite such activities at the company-wide level, LG Uplus decided to improve the disaster relief response system together with the Korean Red Cross. They plan to prepare dedicated vehicles for relief activities to enable rapid dispatch and select and stock relief supplies needed at disaster sites. Additionally, personnel responsible for public relief will be designated in major regions nationwide.
The two parties have previously built a cooperative relationship through initiatives such as the launch of the U+ Altteul Phone donation plan ‘Hope Windmill,’ the ‘Golden Lunchbox’ campaign supporting small business owners and children suffering from food insecurity, and the delivery of support supplies for special contributors from Afghanistan.
LG Uplus plans to fulfill its social responsibilities as a telecommunications service provider and develop various activities with the Korean Red Cross, including building social safety nets and contributing to local communities.
Hwang Hyun-sik, CEO (President) of LG Uplus, said, “We hope to establish a comprehensive cooperative relationship with the Korean Red Cross, not only in disaster response but also in developing ESG-based social contribution programs, and based on this, contribute to building a social safety net.”
