[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate challenging for his fourth term as Seoul mayor, expressed gratitude to the citizens of Seoul for their support during the campaign period upon hearing the news that he ranked first in the exit polls conducted by the three major terrestrial broadcasters. He said, "I feel somewhat relieved."
On the 1st, at the election camp set up at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, Oh confirmed the exit poll results announced at 7:30 PM by the three major terrestrial broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS) and made these remarks. He added, "Exit polls are just exit polls, so we need to wait and see," but also said, "I do feel somewhat relieved, but I will watch until the end."
According to the exit poll results from the three terrestrial broadcasters that day, Oh recorded an expected vote share of 58.7%, leading by 18.5 percentage points over Song Young-gil of the Democratic Party, who was expected to receive 40.2% of the votes.
Meanwhile, the nationwide voter turnout for the simultaneous local elections, which closed at 7:30 PM after voting by COVID-19 quarantined individuals, was 50.1%, with Seoul recording a turnout of 52.5%.
