According to the police on the 31st, Mr. A assaulted female election campaign workers at a street campaign event held at an intersection in Seodong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, for a Democratic Party candidate running for a Nam-gu council seat.
Mr. A reportedly slapped the shoulders of two female campaign workers, and one of the victims expressed feeling "sexually humiliated."
Mr. A did not stop causing a disturbance and approached candidate Park, during which he pushed volunteer Ha Mo (48), who tried to intervene, down a slope, causing injury.
Mr. Ha sustained abrasions on his right arm and received treatment including X-ray examinations at a nearby hospital.
Mr. Ha claimed, "I suspect this was a disruption operation orchestrated by a competing candidate."
Further investigation by the police is expected to reveal Mr. A's motive for the assault.
It is known that Mr. A engaged in physical confrontation while protesting, saying "It's noisy."
