Search and Seizure of Construction and Subcontracting Companies in 'Gwangju Pump Car Fatal Accident'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] Police and other authorities conducted a search and seizure on the construction company and subcontractors in connection with the death of a worker who was struck by a work platform at an apartment construction site in Buk-gu, Gwangju.


On the 31st, the Gwangju Northern Police Station announced that, in cooperation with the Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office, they executed search warrants on four locations, including Doosan Construction and the site office of the reinforced concrete subcontractor, on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.


The four locations include Doosan Construction, the site office of the reinforced concrete subcontractor, the office of the pump car company, and the interior of the pump car vehicle.


Before initiating the forced investigation, the police additionally booked the site managers of Doosan Construction and the reinforced concrete subcontractor on charges of professional negligence resulting in death, and the Labor Office also booked two related corporations along with officials from the construction company and subcontractors on charges of violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act.


At around 9:22 a.m. on the 24th, at the 'Geumnam-ro Jungheung S-Class & Doosan We've the Zenith' apartment construction site in Im-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, a pump car boom fell to the ground while in operation, resulting in the death of a worker. Following this, the police and the Labor Office each launched investigations.


The police initially booked the pump car operator A (59) on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and are investigating the cause of the accident and whether safety measures were neglected. The Labor Office is conducting a separate investigation to determine the applicability of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.


A police official stated, "We will conduct a detailed analysis of the materials secured through the search and seizure to prioritize the investigation related to the fatal accident, and if necessary, we plan to gradually expand the investigation to include illegal subcontracting in the future."
