Hwasun-gun to Operate Picky Eating Prevention Education Program Until the 9th of Next Month

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, and the Hwasun-gun Children's Meal Management Support Center (hereinafter the Meal Center) are operating an educational program called ‘Na (Na) I Will Now Reduce Salt (鹽)’ to help children reduce sodium intake.

According to the county on the 30th, this program targets children at five children's meal sites and is an educational program to practice low-sodium diets and prevent picky eating by informing them of the importance of reducing sodium (low-salt diet) and the risks of excessive sodium intake.

The program, which started on May 10, will continue until June 9.

The first education session involves storytelling using a pop-up book to learn about vegetables and fruits that help expel sodium and making a sturdy bracelet. The second session is a cooking class making ‘Paprika Potato Sandwiches’ using paprika, a local specialty of Hwasun, and potatoes that help expel sodium.

The daily sodium intake for children aged 3 to 5 should be below 1000 mg, as excessive sodium intake can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, and childhood obesity.

Na An-hee, head of the Meal Center, said, “We will do our best to help children form healthy eating habits and prevent picky eating through active exposure to ingredients and various activities,” adding, “We will continuously support nutrition education and various programs for children.”
