Doosan Construction, Opening of Shinbundang Line Gangnam~Sinsa Section Perspective view of Shinbundang Line Phase 3

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Doosan Construction announced on the 30th that it has opened the first phase (Sinsa~Gangnam section) of the Shinbundang Line (Yongsan~Gangnam) double-track railway private investment project.

The Shinbundang Line (Yongsan~Gangnam) double-track railway private investment project has a total project cost of 872.1 billion KRW, with 444.4 billion KRW invested in the first phase. This project, connecting the existing Shinbundang Line from Gwanggyo to Gangnam to the center of Seoul, began construction in August 2016 to improve access to downtown Seoul for residents of southern Seoul and the metropolitan area.

The newly opened extended section of the Shinbundang Line is the first phase of the "Shinbundang Line (Yongsan~Gangnam) double-track railway private investment project," covering 2.5 km out of the total 7.8 km length. Three transfer stations have been newly established.

The route connects Sinsa Station (Line 3), Nonhyeon Station (Line 7), and Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9) to Gangnam Station (Line 2), allowing transfers to Lines 2, 3, 7, and 9. It operates directly connected to the existing Shinbundang Line.

Previously, traveling from Sinsa to Gwanggyo took over an hour by bus and transfers, but with the completion of this project, travel time has been reduced by 18 minutes, allowing arrival in 42 minutes.

The train interval is 5 minutes during peak hours and 6 to 12 minutes during normal hours, operating with a 6-car train set. The second phase of the Shinbundang Line (Yongsan~Gangnam) double-track railway private investment project, covering the Yongsan~Sinsa section, is scheduled to begin construction in 2026 according to the implementation agreement, although changes may occur in consultation with the government.
