[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The two leading candidates for the next governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party and Kim Dong-yeon of the Democratic Party, engaged in a final intensive campaign on the last campaign holiday, the 29th, visiting key battleground areas.
With only three days left until election day, both candidates launched vigorous campaigns under the slogans "Five Days Without Sleep Among the Residents" and "Blue 31 Three-Day March," focusing on solidifying their voter base.
On this day, candidate Kim Eun-hye toured the southwestern Gyeonggi region, including Ansan, Gunpo, Anyang, Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek, conducting focused rallies. Ansan rallies were supported by party leader Lee Jun-seok, while Ahn Cheol-soo, candidate for the Bundang-gap by-election, joined the rallies in Gunpo and Anyang to lend support. Since the night of the 27th, Kim Eun-hye has been campaigning late into the night and early morning under the theme "Five Days Without Sleep Among the Residents."
Candidate Kim Dong-yeon visited Gimpo, Hanam, and eight cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi consecutively, announcing customized policy visions for each of the 11 cities and counties. Starting from this day until the 31st, he embarked on the "Blue 31 March," a three-day intensive campaign covering all 31 cities and counties in the province over 1,000 km, beginning with northern Gyeonggi on the first day.
On the same day, the two candidates continued their verbal sparring, accusing each other of "underreporting assets" and "discord over Gimpo Airport relocation." The Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Provincial Committee filed a complaint with the prosecution accusing Kim Eun-hye of violating the Public Official Election Act by falsely underreporting the value of her spouse's property, specifically a row house in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul (reported value 1.088 billion KRW). The committee claimed, "Since the asset reporting standard date is December 31, 2021, applying the January 1, 2021 official price (1.226 billion KRW) means it was underreported by 137.2 million KRW."
Hwang Gyu-hwan, spokesperson for Kim Eun-hye’s campaign, criticized candidate Kim Dong-yeon and former Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung for being out of sync regarding the "Gimpo Airport relocation" pledge. Hwang pointed out, "On the 26th, Kim Dong-yeon promised to relocate Seoul Airport to Seongnam, saying the president could use Gimpo Airport, but just one day later, former Governor Lee spoke about relocating Gimpo Airport."
Independent candidate Kang Yong-seok visited Gwanggyo Galleria Department Store in Suwon, Justice Party candidate Hwang Soon-sik visited the campaign site of Yongin City Council candidate Ahn Hye-min, Basic Income Party candidate Seo Tae-sung visited Paldalmun in Suwon, and Progressive Party candidate Song Young-joo visited the campaign site of Ansan City Council candidate Jung Se-gyeong, appealing to voters for support.
