A Young Adult Hit by a Car Two Days Before Birthday Gives New Life to Three Through Organ Donation

Donating Heart and Left-Right Kidneys to Become Stars in the Sky

A Young Adult Hit by a Car Two Days Before Birthday Gives New Life to Three Through Organ Donation Mr. Choi Hyun-soo, who saved three lives before passing away.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] A woman in her 20s who was hit by a vehicle running a red light two days before her birthday saved three lives through organ donation and passed away.

The Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that Choi Hyun-soo (25), who was receiving treatment after a car accident, donated her heart and left and right kidneys, giving new life to three people before becoming a star in the sky.

On the early morning of the 12th, Choi was hit by a vehicle that ran a red light while she was crossing a crosswalk on her way home. She was then transported to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery but fell into a brain-dead state.

Born in 1996 as the second child among one son and two daughters, Choi was a talented individual who graduated from Hanseong Science High School and Korea University. She was a newcomer to society, having joined SK Energy this year.

Choi’s family said she was a reliable and independent daughter who handled her own affairs well and was the mood maker among her siblings, always making those around her feel good. The donation agency explained that although saying goodbye to a beloved family member is difficult for anyone, the family decided to proceed with the donation believing that through it, their daughter would not be gone but would live on somewhere together.

Choi’s father, Choi Myung-geun, left a final message to his daughter: "Though your life was short, you were the most beautiful and good daughter to our family. I hope you go to a good place, live a new and wonderful life without pain."

Lee Ho-jung, a social worker in charge of the bereaved family’s care, expressed gratitude, saying, "It is difficult to imagine the sorrow of the family facing the sudden farewell with a daughter who must have been prouder than anyone else. We will remember the donor and the bereaved family who will shine brighter than anyone even after parting."
