Gyeonggi-do Opens New Gwanggyo Government Building on the 30th... 21 Departments and 2,500 Employees Working


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province officially opens the era of the Suwon Gwanggyo New Government Building on the 30th.


Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that it completed the relocation work on the 29th after moving each department over seven weeks from Thursday to Sunday starting from the 14th of last month.


The Gwanggyo New Government Building is located at 30 Docheong-ro, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si (184 Iui-dong) in Gyeonggi Convergence Town, with 4 basement floors and 25 above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 16,337㎡. The project cost 478 billion KRW, construction began in September 2017, and it was completed in November 2021.


The new government building houses 21 offices and bureaus, 88 divisions, and over 2,500 employees. Additionally, on the lower floors, there are facilities open to residents such as an open civil service office, an open library, a PR center, and lounges.


Earlier, the Provincial Council moved in first on January 24 this year to the Gwanggyo New Government Building (4 basement floors to 12 above-ground floors, total floor area 33,121㎡).


In the future, Gyeonggi Convergence Town will include various public facilities such as the Gyeonggi Library, a plaza, Gyeonggi Garden, and a pedestrian mall. The passage connecting to the Shinbundang Line Gwanggyo Jungang Station transfer center will be completed in 2024.


On the 115,287㎡ site of Gyeonggi Convergence Town, additional tenants will move in by 2024, including ▲Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (scheduled for completion in October this year) ▲Bank of Korea Gyeonggi Headquarters (scheduled for completion in December this year) ▲Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH, scheduled for completion in December 2023) ▲Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation (scheduled for completion in June 2024).


Meanwhile, the old government building on Hyowon-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, which had been used since June 1967, will house the Gyeonggi Provincial Archives, Integrated Data Center, Provincial Construction Headquarters, and 17 affiliated centers. The old government building consists of 10 buildings with a total floor area of 54,074㎡.


Oh Tae-seok, Director of the Provincial Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, "We are ending the 55-year era of the Paldalsan government building and starting new operations at the Gwanggyo New Government Building from the 30th," adding, "With this relocation, all Gyeonggi Province public officials will return to their original intentions and carry out open administration to be closer to the residents."
