[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea, which had been in conflict due to demands for reform from Emergency Response Committee Chair Park Ji-hyun, has tentatively reconciled ahead of the local election runoff. Instead of apologizing for the series of chaotic events, the Emergency Response Committee reached a compromise to pursue full-scale party reform after the election.
On the 28th, the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee held a closed-door meeting at the National Assembly. After the meeting, Go Yong-jin, the Democratic Party's election campaign public relations director, stated, "The Emergency Response Committee agreed to sincerely apologize for causing concern to the public, the Democratic Party, and the party's candidates," adding, "This situation is part of the painful process of showing that the Democratic Party is changing."
The Emergency Response Committee declared, "We will devote ourselves even more to winning the upcoming local elections and innovating the party."
For now, the committee said, "To create a dynamic Democratic Party, we will open the door wider for youth politics and complete political change," and "We will establish a zero-tolerance principle for criminal acts such as sexual violence within the party." It continued, "To be a Democratic Party that keeps its promises more faithfully, we will promptly implement the national pledges made during the presidential election," and "To establish stronger party discipline and a healthy culture of debate, we will strictly address inappropriate behavior and verbal abuse by party members." Furthermore, "To prepare more meticulously for the future, the Democratic Party will actively pursue necessary legislation on issues such as resolving polarization, the climate crisis, national pension, population extinction, local areas, youth, and job creation."
It is known that before the Emergency Response Committee meeting, Chair Park and Emergency Response Committee Chair Yoon Ho-jung met and discussed the issues. Director Go said, "Today, all the various problems have been tied up."
Regarding the direction of innovation that day, it was reported that the Emergency Response Committee sympathized with the reform direction proposed by Chair Park.
The Democratic Party explained that, for now, "We will proceed with forming a body to promote reforms after the election," and "Both Emergency Response Committee Chairs and members have decided to work hard for election victory."
