Dr. Oh Eun-young Diagnosed with "Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Singer Ali (38) confessed to being a victim of sexual assault in the past and expressed difficulties in daily life.
Ali appeared on the Channel A variety show 'Oh Eun-young's Golden Counseling Center' aired on the 27th and consulted with Dr. Oh Eun-young about her concerns.
Ali also revealed that she is going through a difficult time due to the death of her close friend, the late Park Ji-sun, and her past experience of sexual assault.
In the broadcast, Ali said, "I developed a fear of falling asleep and often stayed up all night. So I only slept two hours a day." She added, "I have nightmares at least once a week. To endure the fear of the nightmares, I have to drink two bottles of soju to fall asleep."
In response, Dr. Oh Eun-young said, "You only slept just enough not to die. If you are scared of falling asleep, you cannot sleep properly." She asked, "Have you ever experienced the death of someone close to you?" After some time, Ali mentioned Park Ji-sun, saying, "A friend whom MC Lee Yoon-ji and I cherished a lot seems to have had a big influence on me."
She continued, "Park Ji-sun, Lee Yoon-ji, and I were friends with a 10-year friendship. But when Park Ji-sun was sick, I couldn't express myself much." She added, "I was also going through a difficult situation at that time. I was going to contact her after some time, but she passed away in the meantime."
While feeling sorry, Dr. Oh said, "It's very shocking and it affects (Ali's anxiety), but it's hard to explain everything with this. If you feel fear of death, you must have experienced an event that caused it. What exactly gave you such a great fear?"
Then Ali revealed her past sexual assault experience. She said, "I thought I had overcome (the sexual assault). It happened when I was in my mid-20s, working as a guest vocalist and preparing a solo album."
Ali confessed, "Honestly, I don't want to remember it. I felt a lot of loss at that time." She added, "At that time, it really felt like everything in my life was disappearing."
When asked, "What kind of punishment did the perpetrator receive?" Ali replied, "He did receive punishment. But I don't remember how. I just hope he lives well and repents sincerely." She continued, "Since I am someone exposed to the media, when I spoke about my position, that person who had repented might suddenly live differently, right?" Dr. Oh said, "That is also a tremendous fear," and added, "It is heartbreaking that you cannot even hate him freely."
Dr. Oh Eun-young diagnosed Ali's symptoms as 'Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).' Dr. Oh said, "It is PTSD. It is trauma caused by sexual assault. People like this feel terrified and distressed just by recalling things related to the incident. They try to avoid related things, so their memory might have worsened after the incident." She continued, "I believe the PTSD is still ongoing. Proper treatment and recovery should start from now on," and added, "Medication is recommended when symptoms are present."
