[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] As of 5 p.m. on the second day of early voting for the 8th nationwide local elections on the 28th, the voter turnout rate was recorded at 19.44%.
The National Election Commission announced that by 5 p.m. that day, 8,614,004 out of a total of 44,303,449 eligible voters had cast their ballots. Voting began simultaneously at polling stations nationwide at 6 a.m. that day.
The region with the highest turnout so far was Jeonnam (29.69%), followed by Gangwon (24.01%), Jeonbuk (23.27%), Gyeongbuk (22.13%), and Sejong (20.78%). The lowest turnout was recorded in Daegu at 13.91%, followed by Gwangju (16.27%), Busan (17.61%), Gyeonggi (17.9%), and Ulsan (18.45%).
The turnout rate in the Seoul metropolitan area was 19.81% in Seoul and 18.94% in Incheon.
