[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Yoon Hojung, Co-Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "I propose a summit meeting with President Yoon Seokyeol to discuss the implementation plan for the retroactive application of (COVID-19 loss compensation) promised during the presidential election."

On the 28th, Chairman Yoon proposed at a campaign rally supporting Na Soyeol, candidate for the National Assembly in Boryeong-Seocheon, Chungnam, and Lee Youngwoo, candidate for Boryeong mayor, "Let's hold a meeting even tomorrow morning to pass the supplementary budget bill and to establish a complete compensation plan that applies loss compensation retroactively."

The ruling and opposition parties originally planned to hold a plenary session of the National Assembly on the same day to process the supplementary budget bill, but failed to find common ground on the key issue of retroactive application of loss compensation, so they agreed to hold the plenary session on the afternoon of the 29th and continue negotiations.

Chairman Yoon said, "Tomorrow marks the end of the first two years of the National Assembly's term, but the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts for the second half has not been formed, nor has the leadership been elected," adding, "If we pass tomorrow like this, we cannot promise when small business owners will be compensated and supported." "Candidates from both parties promised retroactive loss compensation during the presidential election, and to keep that promise, the National Assembly has been discussing it for days, but yesterday President Yoon said, 'I didn't expect the National Assembly wouldn't help like this.' Does that make sense?"

Meanwhile, Chairman Yoon appealed not to be discouraged by unfavorable poll results and to head to the voting booths. He raised his voice, saying, "Our supporters have not felt hopeful since the presidential election, so they don't watch TV news or answer poll calls. If you haven't voted early yet, please make sure to vote, and if you still can't, please vote on the main election day. If you vote, we win."

Co-Chairman Park Jihyun also campaigned to support Park Woonki, candidate for Seoul Seodaemun District Mayor, urging for support. She said, "We are changing and innovating from the Democratic Party as it has been so far," and "We will create a younger, newer, and more innovative Democratic Party." She added, "Your vote is needed to build such a Democratic Party."
