[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] Veteran Park Sung-guk (34, KM Pharmaceutical) shows strong performance.

On the 28th, at Blackstone Golf Club in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province (par 72, 7,260 yards), during the third day of the KPGA Korean Tour KB Financial Live Championship (total prize money 700 million won), Park shot an even par under harsh conditions with strong winds, taking the top spot on the leaderboard (3-under 213). ‘Match King’ Park Eun-shin (32, Hana Financial Group) and Hwang Jae-min (36) are tied for 2nd place (2-under 214), while Jung Han-mil (31, Dohwi Edge) and Yang Ji-ho (33) are tied for 4th place (1-under 215).

Park Sung-guk started from a tie for 2nd place, one stroke behind the leader, exchanging three birdies and three bogeys. He lost the birdie on the 1st hole (par 5) with a bogey on the 2nd hole, and the birdie on the 4th hole (par 4) was offset by a bogey on the 5th hole (par 5), failing to reduce his score. After parring eight holes in a row, he made a birdie on the 14th hole (par 4) but bogeyed the final 18th hole (par 5). Leading by one stroke, he has a chance for his second career win, his first in 3 years and 7 months since winning the 2018 Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Choi Kyung-ju Invitational.

Park Sung-guk is a former national team reserve player and has been on the Korean Tour for 16 years since 2007. At the Choi Kyung-ju Invitational, he created a ‘human drama’ by winning after 11 years and 133 tournaments since his debut. In the final 4th round, he shot 2-under to tie for the lead and secured the winning par on the third hole of the playoff. The five-man playoff battle, including Lee Hyung-joon (30, Welcome Savings Bank), Lee Jun-seok (Australia), Park Hyo-won (35, Park Seung-chul Hair Studio), and Lee Soo-min (29, Srixon), was a hot topic at the time.

Park Eun-shin recorded five birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey. After last week’s Munsingwear Match Play, he is aiming for ‘back-to-back wins’ for two consecutive weeks. Jung Han-mil, who led for two consecutive days, struggled with a 3-over par. Ko Gun-taek (23, Daebo Construction) and Jeon Sang-hyun (19, Webcash Group) are tied for 6th place (even par 216), while Seo Yo-seop (26, DB Insurance), Lee Tae-hee (36, OK Financial Group), and Kim Min-gyu (21, CJ Logistics) are tied for 8th place (1-over par 217). Defending champion Moon Kyung-jun (40, NH Nonghyup Bank) finished tied for 22nd place (6-over par 222).
