'Investigation Authority Expansion' Police to Hold 'Investigation Progress Officer' and 'Responsible Investigator' Selection Exams Today

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Following the passage of the so-called 'Prosecution Complete Abolition' law, which expanded investigative authority, the police will conduct an evaluation exam to select specialized investigators on the 28th.

The National Police Agency announced that the evaluation exam for selecting 'Investigation Experienced Officers' and 'Chief Investigators,' who are qualified to work in investigative departments, will be held at 35 designated test centers across city and provincial police offices nationwide on the same day. A total of 4,180 candidates will take the exam, including 3,921 for Investigation Experienced Officers and 259 for Chief Investigators.

The Investigation Experienced Officers exam consists of subjects on Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and Practical Crime Investigation, and is conducted continuously for 90 minutes without breaks. The Chief Investigator exam allows candidates to choose a field among Investigation, Criminal, and Cyber sectors. The exam is conducted in two sessions: the first session lasts 100 minutes, followed by a 30-minute break, and then the second session lasts 60 minutes.

Among those selected as Investigation Experienced Officers, individuals currently working in non-investigative departments will be granted the qualification of Preliminary Investigator. They will receive intensive training on specialized knowledge and practical procedures before transferring to investigative departments. Investigators granted Chief Investigator qualifications will be assigned to their preferred departments (positions) first.

The police plan to conduct the review and final selection of Investigation Experienced Officers on the 16th of next month. The final selection for Chief Investigators will take place one day later, on the 17th.
