Local Election Early Voting Day 2... Voter Turnout at 10.66% as of 7 AM

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Early voting for the June 1 local elections is underway on its second day.

The National Election Commission announced that as of 7 a.m. on the second day of early voting for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections on the 28th, the voter turnout rate was recorded at 10.66%. This figure is cumulative from the previous day. The final turnout rate on the first day of early voting was 10.18%. On the previous day, out of 44,303,449 registered voters nationwide, 4,508,869 had cast their votes.

Voting on the second day began simultaneously at 6 a.m. at polling stations nationwide. Out of the total 44,303,449 registered voters, 4,724,797 had voted.

The region with the highest turnout so far is Jeonnam at 17.96%, followed by Gangwon (13.91%), Jeonbuk (13.84%), Gyeongbuk (12.79%), and Chungbuk (11.4%). The lowest turnout was recorded in Daegu at 7.38%, followed by Gwangju (8.98%), Gyeonggi (9.48%), Busan (9.77%), and Daejeon (9.88%). The turnout rates in the metropolitan area were 10.56% in Seoul and 10.12% in Incheon.

Early voting is being conducted over two days at 3,551 polling stations nationwide, ending today. General voting starts at 6 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m., as on the previous day.

If COVID-19 confirmed patients are required to remain in isolation, they can only vote on the second day. The voting hours for COVID-19 confirmed patients are from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who arrive at the early voting stations before the closing time can participate in the voting.
