[Cannes (France) = Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] "The relentless challenge and exploration of director Koreeda Hirokazu left a strong impression. 'Broker' is also part of that."

Actor Song Kang-ho said this on the morning of the 27th (local time) at the press conference for the film 'Broker' held at the Cannes Palais des Festivals press center when asked about working with director Koreeda Hirokazu. He added, "His previous works are excellent, and he is a director I really like."

The 75th Cannes Film Festival competition entry 'Broker' held its premiere screening at the Lumi?re Theater on the 26th, unveiling the film. The next day, at the competition press conference, director Koreeda Hirokazu, actors Song Kang-ho, Gang Dong-won, IU, and Lee Joo-young attended and met with the global press.

'Broker' depicts a story about someone secretly taking a baby left in a baby box. Directed by Koreeda Hirokazu, who won the Jury Prize at the 66th Cannes Film Festival for 'Like Father, Like Son' (2013) and the Palme d'Or at the 71st Cannes Film Festival for 'Shoplifters' (2018), the film attracted attention as it stars Song Kang-ho, who appeared in 'Parasite' (2018), winner of the Palme d'Or at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, and served as a jury member in the competition section at the 74th Cannes Film Festival last year.

On this day, Song Kang-ho expressed familiarity by saying, "Director Koreeda is a great gourmet." He laughed, adding, "He really likes Korean food." Gang Dong-won said, "What impressed me was that he always watched the actors' performances directly beside the camera rather than through the monitor." He added, "Thanks to that, I was able to capture detailed emotions."

IU said, "Since the director uses a different language, I focused more on the language than on other sets," and added, "It was enjoyable." Lee Joo-young said, "Except for communication through an interpreter, it was not particularly different just because it was a project with different nationalities."

IU, who played the mother Soyoung, confessed, "I was worried and felt burdened because I had to act out emotions I had never experienced." She continued, "I tried to learn more about baby boxes and prepared by watching interviews and documentaries to understand the environment and difficulties faced by single mothers." She added, "On the other hand, it was also an opportunity to reflect on the fact that I had been unaware of this until now."

Gang Dong-won, who played Dongsu, a baby broker raised in an orphanage, explained, "It's a role of a broker who sells children," and said, "I tried to convey the pain I felt by meeting and talking with people from orphanages. I wanted to portray how Dongsu's pain is healed after meeting Soyoung," highlighting his acting focus.
