[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Chinese government fiercely criticized U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken's speech, which criticized China's foreign policy, calling it "an attempt to spread false information to exaggerate the China threat, interfere in internal affairs, smear China's foreign policy, suppress China's development, and protect U.S. hegemony."
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed "strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition" to the speech during a regular briefing on the 27th.
He stated, "The United States, unable to solve its own problems, is dragging the world into a pit of danger," adding, "The claim that China is the most serious long-term challenge to the world order is a complete distortion. China has been, is, and will continue to be a guardian of the international order."
He continued, "The United States is the inventor and epitome of coercive diplomacy, and its targets do not distinguish between size, distance, or even friend and foe," pointing out, "The international community has suffered from this, and the U.S. should have corrected this chronic disease long ago."
Regarding the speech's criticism of China's coercive stance toward Taiwan, he emphasized, "The complete reunification of China is the common aspiration and firm will of all Chinese descendants," and "China will not tolerate any compromise or concession."
He further raised the offensive level, saying, "The U.S. claims verbally that it does not support Taiwan independence, but its words and actions differ," and "Repeatedly violating political commitments made to China, attempting to undermine the One-China principle, and encouraging Taiwan independence forces to gain momentum is a 'change of the status quo' and a serious threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait."
Regarding Secretary Blinken's remarks that he has no intention of clashing with China or engaging in a new Cold War, China responded, "We will wait earnestly for this."
On the 26th (local time), Secretary Blinken delivered a strategic speech on China at George Washington University for about 45 minutes, stating that although China has benefited the most from international laws and principles, it is undermining them, and mentioned plans to change the strategic environment.
