Jeju Fire Headquarters Strengthens On-Site Response Capabilities by Training Specialized Rescue Team Members

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters is strengthening on-site response capabilities by actively training professional rescue personnel, as Jeju produced the highest number of successful candidates in the Honam region in the recent 5th Gwangju Fire Academy Level 2 Life Rescuer Qualification Exam.

According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters on the 27th, the Level 2 Life Rescuer Qualification Exam certifies individuals to perform rescue operations that protect the life and body of rescue targets safely using various rescue equipment in emergency situations.

It evaluates a total of nine categories, including two basic competencies such as basic swimming ability, and seven rescue skills such as underwater life rescue and manhole life rescue.

In this recent Level 2 Life Rescuer Qualification Exam, 36 candidates from Jeju took the test, with 20 passing (55.5%), achieving the highest pass rate in the Honam region. Last year as well, Jeju’s pass rate (68.4%) was higher than the Honam regional average pass rate (43.6%).

Jeju’s higher pass rate compared to other cities and provinces is analyzed to be the result of actively utilizing rescue leaders for the vulnerable category of water rescue, conducting special education and intensive repetitive training, and focusing on customized education for each member on weak categories through frequent mock evaluations.

In particular, this year, for the first time in the Honam region, three female fire officers in Jeju obtained life rescuer qualifications, and as the number of qualified life rescuers continues to increase, it is expected to play a significant role in protecting the precious lives of residents and eliminating rescue blind spots in various disaster sites such as mountain, water, and traffic accidents.

Firefighter Bae Minju of the Eastern Fire Station, who obtained the qualification this year, said, “Obtaining the life rescuer qualification has given me more confidence in on-site response as I can now perform not only first aid but also life rescue activities at various disaster sites.”
