[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is investing a total project cost of 2.43 billion KRW to promote Gyeongbuk-style maker education, operating 62 maker education schools, 11 maker teacher research teams, 1 maker education hall, and 2 maker education centers.

Gyeongbuk-style maker education is a student-centered activity-based education with the slogan "Turning imagination into reality," aiming for students to directly create what they imagine and think using various tools and digital devices, and to share the knowledge and experience learned in the process with others.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education supports 657 million KRW for 26 schools building makerspaces among the maker education operating schools, 245 million KRW for 36 model schools of Infinite Imagination Rooms, and 88 million KRW for 11 maker teacher research teams to carry out tasks such as operating maker events and developing maker education programs.

Through Gyeongbuk-style maker education, to nurture talents equipped with core competencies required by future society in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the education office led the opening of the "Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education Maker Education Hall," the first in the nation where experience and education are possible simultaneously, on July 20, 2020. To date, more than 66,000 people from over 600 schools and institutions have used it. Two specialized maker education centers responsible for regional maker education are also operated.

The "Northern Maker Education Center" operates traditional maker education programs such as pottery and hanji craft, as well as various maker education programs including media production. The "Southern Maker Education Center" operates specialized maker education programs such as AI autonomous driving, VR, drones, robots, software, webtoon design, and metaverse education, enabling simultaneous maker experience and education based on advanced science and technology.

Park Jonghwal, Director of Policy, said, "I hope students grow into talents who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution through the knowledge and experience gained in the process of making what they imagine," and added, "We will actively develop and expand various maker education projects to support the high educational demand of the Gyeongbuk education family."
