[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is actively promoting water conservation as the water shortage caused by the recent drought worsens.
The county's cumulative rainfall this year is only 110.3mm, which is 43.4% compared to last year's 254.0mm, and the storage rate of Goje Reservoir is currently 81.7%, which is 86.0% compared to the average, indicating a severe water shortage.
Until the drought is resolved, a water-saving campaign will be conducted through all promotional media, including electronic display boards.
As water-saving methods in daily life, promotional leaflets containing practical actions that can be done at home, such as ▲using a cup for brushing teeth ▲reducing shower time ▲adjusting water pressure valves ▲doing laundry in batches ▲turning off water while soaping ▲using collected water for dishwashing ▲recycling wastewater, are being distributed to promote awareness among residents.
The current drought alert status and outlook in the county is at the "interest" stage. The Geochang-gun Waterworks Office plans to focus on securing water sources by requesting upstream reservoir discharge and operating the emergency water intake from Wicheon Stream, making every effort to prepare for the ongoing drought.
Kang Kwang-seok, head of the Waterworks Office, said, “We ask for active participation in practicing water conservation to overcome the drought,” and added, “We will do our best to provide clean and stable water supply.”
