[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the first day of early voting for the June 1 local elections, the candidates in major battlegrounds cast their votes on the 27th.


Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, voted around 6:20 a.m. at the Unjung-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, together with her spouse, lawyer Yoo Hyung-dong. After early voting, she told reporters, “During the remaining period, I will do my best until the end, recalling each day when I sincerely devoted myself to the residents just as I did at the beginning,” adding, “As a strong ruling party candidate, I want to definitely bring victory.”

Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, cast his vote with his spouse Jeong Woo-young around 7 a.m. at the early voting station set up at the Gwanggyo 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province. He said, “Because there is the Nine Armies (Gugun) and justice, I am confident we will win,” and added, “During the remaining period, I will clearly present my vision, policy content, and work skills for Gyeonggi Province and its residents to gain much support and ensure victory.”


Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, also appeared around 9 a.m. at an early voting station near his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, with his spouse Song Hyun-ok. When asked about his thoughts by reporters, he replied, “Seoul must keep running,” and said, “I am ready, so please vote early so that the engine of change does not stop and I can have the opportunity to work.”

Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party candidate for Seoul mayor, also participated in early voting at the same time in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with his spouse and children. He said, “I came to Yongsan by the Han River as a sign of my determination to underground the Olympic-daero and Hangang-daero roads and return the Han River directly to the citizens,” adding, “For new changes and innovation in Seoul, I appeal to you to choose new change rather than re-electing a three-term candidate.”

Candidates for the National Assembly by-elections held together with the local elections also participated in early voting. Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul, voted in Gyesan-dong, Incheon, without his spouse, and said, “It is not the polls but the actual votes that determine the winner,” urging, “Please vote for a new world and a hopeful world.”

Ahn Cheol-soo, the People Power Party candidate for Seongnam Bundang-gap National Assembly member, voted with his spouse Professor Kim Mi-kyung in Baekhyeon-dong, Seongnam-si, and said, “Whether a National Assembly member is well elected or not changes how much the region can develop,” expressing, “I expect voters’ wise judgment.”


Yoon Hyung-sun, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeyang-eul, plans to cast an early vote on the morning of the 28th with Lee Jun-seok, the People Power Party leader.
