[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Sangjungdo Island by the lakeside in Chuncheon has been removed from the list of tourist sites after 53 years, allowing various development projects and the exercise of private property rights in the area.

Chuncheon City stated, "We have recently completed the service for changing the Chuncheon lakeside (Sangjungdo) tourist site development plan."

The designated area of the lakeside tourist site is 5,924,388㎡, including Wido, Sangjungdo, Hajungdo, and Samaksan Mountain as tourist sites.

Gangwon Province officially approved and announced on the 6th that Sangjungdo would be excluded from the lakeside tourist site.

An area of 1,286,239㎡ of Sangjungdo was excluded from the tourist site, and the tourist site development plan for Sangjungdo was abolished.

Accordingly, in Sangjungdo, which is a natural green area, it is now possible to develop apartment complexes up to four stories, type 1 and 2 neighborhood living facilities, camping grounds, cultural and assembly facilities, religious facilities, and sports facilities.

In particular, with the increase in tourism demand due to the opening of the Samaksan Lake Cable Car and Legoland, the city expects high anticipation for the development of Sangjungdo.

A city official said, "Sangjungdo had been restricted from development as it was designated as a tourist site," adding, "With this removal, the development of Sangjungdo will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
