The police responded to a resident's report that the election campaigner A was carrying envelopes of money, caught the illegal activity on site, and arrested A.
At the time of arrest, about 40 envelopes containing 150,000 won each and other envelopes containing several million won were found in A's vehicle, along with clothing of the candidate, placards for campaigning, and business cards.
A is an election campaigner for independent candidate Kim Gi-seok for Damyang-gun mayor, and it is known that he independently raised money without consulting the candidate, wanting to help the election, claiming that some of the money was intended for other purposes.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances with A and members of the campaign team.
