[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Yoon Taek-geun, the senior vice chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), who held a large-scale urban rally with tens of thousands of union members in violation of government quarantine rules, has been indicted.
According to the legal community on the 26th, the 10th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jin Hyun-il) indicted Vice Chairman Yoon on the previous day on charges of violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act, and obstruction of general traffic.
Vice Chairman Yoon is accused of leading the "10·20 KCTU General Strike" rally, which was attended by approximately 27,000 union members (estimated by the organizers) around the Seodaemun Station intersection in Seoul on October 20 last year. He is also accused of leading the "Jeon Tae-il Martyr Spirit Succession National Workers' Rally," which gathered about 20,000 people (estimated by the organizers) around Dongdaemun Rotary on November 13, a month later.
Despite the government quarantine guidelines limiting the number of participants in rallies to a maximum of 499, Vice Chairman Yoon led the rallies in place of Chairman Yang Kyung-soo, who was in custody at the time.
