Expansion of Support Programs to Ensure a Safe Way Home

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun's project to expand the 'Youth Safe Return Home Taxi Support Target' has been selected by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as an excellent case of proactive administration by local governments.

According to the county on the 26th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety annually selects excellent cases that resolve regulations through proactive administration such as revising local ordinances, improving systems, and recommending to central government ministries, thereby revitalizing the local economy and enhancing residents' quality of life.

Among a total of 403 proactive administration cases submitted in the first quarter of this year, 8 excellent cases were selected through internal and external reviews.

The 'Haenam Youth Safe Return Home Taxi System' allows middle and high school students in the region to use taxis for only 1,000 won when returning home at night from school (or academies).

For students whose return distance exceeds 1 km, the taxi fare excluding 1,000 won is supported up to a maximum of 300,000 won per month (up to 500,000 won in Songji, Bukpyeong, Munnae, and Hwawon).

In particular, the county revised the existing ordinance provision that prohibited the use of the youth safe return home taxi during vacation periods after academy or night study sessions, expanding the usage scope so that students can use the youth safe return home taxi throughout the year.

Youth in Haenam-gun, a depopulated area with insufficient public transportation, could use the youth safe return home taxi during the semester, but not during vacation periods, causing distant commuting students to face a heavy burden of transportation costs and anxiety about safety on their way home.

Accordingly, the county established a plan to expand support for youth safe return home taxis, increased the transportation cost support amount, and revised the ordinance to allow usage during vacation periods, ensuring a safe return home for distant commuting students.

Haenam stated, "Deregulation is another driving force that makes residents' lives more convenient and revitalizes the local economy," and added, "We will continue to actively strive to discover cases of deregulation centered on demand such as local residents and small business owners."
